Provençal Museums to visit virtually

To keep in touch with culture during this period, some museums in the region have made virtual tours of their exhibitions available. It has never been easier to visit a museum: in just a few clicks you can walk through the doors and plunge into a new world.
With more than thirty museums in the Bouches-du-Rhône, there is plenty to discover about the strong elements of Provençal culture and traditions. Here is our selection of the best virtual visits in Provence:

The MUCEM

The Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations offers a complete virtual tour of the three museum sites as well as six online exhibitions. Hundreds of thousands of objects, prints, drawings, posters, photographs, sound archives and audio commentaries are presented for a unique discovery of this collection.

The Raimu Museum

The museum opened its doors on 18 September 2014, born from the meeting between the Mayor of Marignane, Eric le Dissès, and Raimu’s granddaughter, Isabelle Nohain-Raimu. A beautiful bourgeois house, renovated by the town council, reveals an endearing place filled with the strong moments, known and sometimes more intimate, of the life of the theatre and cinema actor. A virtual visit is available on their site for a moment of timeless emotion.

The Camargue Museum

The Camargue Regional Natural Park has installed the Camargue Museum in the former livestock barn of the Mas du Pont de Rousty. The Museum proposes a step back into the past, to discover the history of the Camargue, its transformation and the balance between biodiversity and human activity that has been established. Sustainable development is at the heart of the approach. The Museum offers a virtual tour for a 360° walk.

The Vasarely Foundation

Inaugurated in 1976 and recently renovated, the Vasarely Foundation houses monumental works by the master of optical art. In 2013, Hexalab, Perspective and Bype produced the Vasarely 3D Project, a 4-minute video to discover the Foundation as if you were there!

Le Camps des Milles

The Camp des Milles memorial site in Aix-en-Provence is one of the few large camps still intact in Europe and is the only one in France. This site tells the history of the nation and the territory as well as life in the camp. It offers two fascinating virtual tours and another vision of art during this important period in history.

These virtual tours allow you to discover (or rediscover!) Provence and offer a moment of escape whilst staying at home!
